Import your theme into Shopify

Fimbi generates a standard Shopify theme (Online Store 2.0). You download it as a ZIP from your store preview, then upload it in your Shopify admin. It takes about two minutes.

Direct export to Shopify is coming soon. You’ll be able to publish your store in one click, no ZIP needed. In the meantime, the method below gives you exactly the same result — it’s the very same theme.

1. Download the ZIP

From your store preview, click Download ZIP (top right, or in the ⋮ menu on mobile). You’ll get a file named after your brand, for example my-brand-theme.zip.

Don’t unzip it. Shopify expects the archive as is.

2. Upload it to Shopify

In your Shopify admin:

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes
  2. In the Theme library section, click Add theme → Upload zip file
  3. Select your ZIP file and confirm

The theme shows up in your theme library. It isn’t live yet — that’s on purpose: you can take your time looking at it before switching over.

3. Preview it

Click Preview next to the uploaded theme. You’ll see your store exactly as it will look, with your real products if you already have some.

4. Add your products

This is what surprises people most, so let’s be clear: the ZIP contains the theme — the layout, the copy, the lifestyle images, the colors. It does not contain your catalog. Your products, their prices and their inventory live in Shopify, never in a theme.

If your store is still empty, the theme still displays correctly: the “Shop” buttons simply lead to an empty catalog. Add your products under Products → Add product and they’ll automatically appear on your collection and product pages.

Some sections let you pick a product to feature: click Customize, select the section, then your product.

5. Publish

When you’re happy with everything: go to Online Store → Themes, then click Publish on your new theme. It becomes your store’s live theme.

Your old theme isn’t deleted: it stays in your theme library, and you can switch back to it at any time by publishing it again.

Editing the theme later

You have two options, and they work well together:

  • In Shopify — Customize lets you change text, colors and images without touching any code.
  • In Fimbi — ask for your changes in the chat, then download the ZIP again and re-upload it. Heads up: this creates a new version of the theme in your library, and any tweaks you made directly in Shopify won’t carry over.

Do I own the theme?

Yes. It’s a standard Shopify theme, installed on your store. It keeps working even if you cancel your Fimbi subscription.

The upload failed. What should I do?

Make sure you’re uploading the ZIP archive without unzipping it first, and that the download finished. If the error message persists, send it to us at contact@fimbi.dev — with the exact message, we can pinpoint the cause quickly.

Can I import several Fimbi stores?

Yes. Each uploaded theme is added to your theme library; only one is published at a time. It’s a great way to compare several directions before choosing.
